Shelter V

Shelter V, 2009

Oh there was once a man who had lost his own smile
And he wandered the country mile after mile
Never quite knowing what he wanted to find
For his heart it lay heavy with the weight of his mind

And he looked at the land through the tears in his eyes
For he knew that there were those who would will her to die
And he wept for his mother as he lay at her feet
And he heard a voice singing him softly to sleep

I'll be your queen, I'll be your mother - I'll be your mystical child
Be your best friend, your lover - Your wife for all time
Will there ever be another, in this life of mine
Will there ever be another, like my mystical child

So he climbed a high hill and he looked out to sea
And he heard a voice calling out softly to him
Open your heart boy for it needs to be free
And the next time you're crying come running to me

So he walked through the valleys the trees and the fields
And he came to a river where she waited for him
And they looked at the water of life flowing by
And he heard a voice saying 'you're not alone in the fight'

Stirring The Mirror - COVER

I just found it today on the shelf, Christine Boyka Kluge's "Stirring The Mirror" was actually one of the very first book covers that contain my photographs or illustrations. "A collection of contemporary myths to live by " by a talented and personally charming author was released by The Bitter Oleander Press. Christine runs her own blog, so you can visit her here

Swansong, 2009

Juliet , 2008

Someone asked me, why I don't express admiration for contemporary times. Well,I do, in a way ... The main virtue of nowadays time is that we have a little bit more freedom letting us choose whether we want to stay here or move back to the past. Noone will force me to wear leggins anyway ^^

P.S. I wanted to share some lyrics of a project called "Rise and Fall of a Decade" ( a French band, sounding a bit similar to early Cocteau Twins & Bel Canto ) but found none in the web. A totally underrated band.

Yesterday Is Here

Yesterday Is Here, 2009
P.S. Do zdjęcia wykorzystałam tę suknię

I still can't get used to the new camera, therefore I had to cancel planning any new shooting sessions, even although there are so many beautiful faces around. It all seems too chaotic and I still can't achieve regular results. Maybe it's not just the equipment, rather some lack of an impulse to create. Still, when I tak the camera in my hands, it's so nice to wear vintage clothes and stand in front of the lens after a little while. I used to say that this image was taken as an excuse to smoke a little bit...well, I still feel I'd like to have a cigarette or two ( although I gave it up some time ago) , I hope the need won't defeat me:(
P.S. I used this gown in the image:

Shelter & Elation

Shelter IV, 2009

An every single day might bring little joys, today, for instance, I finally discovered the author of a song that I long time ago recorded on a tape ( 90's)- it's the band Levellers and their enchanting piece called "Elation", from the album "Mouth to Mouth", a folk-rock journey into the land of wild spells...

FRAGMENTS OF MEMORIES

Frail of heart renounce all fear.
Locked away inside all these years.
Remain in the light, renounce all fears.
For you have been mesmerised.
Break this spell of silence

( Dead Can Dance - Mesmerism )

P.S. W roli ilustracji odrzuty z niegdysiejszych sesji...

This is a message for Polish Dead Can Dance fans, so apologies but I won't translate the text this time. Please, check the forthcoming updates , though :)

The Night Is Young

The Night Is Young, 2009

The half-moon is aching, bitter and sad.
We are wet. we are stripped to the bone.
It's out of our hands, the dream we're bound to dream.
We are wet, always alone

Inspirations - DEVIL DOLL

"WE ARE JUST SKETCHES OF MEN
CAUGHT IN A WICKED VORTEX
WHERE TERTIUM NON DATUR
BETWEEN BEING GOD
OR BEING DAMNED-"

"Dark and heavy prog band from Italy & Slovenia which inspires their music on the old silent horror movies. DEVIL DOLL's music has been described as "an elaborate and bombastic collision of styles" and "a perverse, yet brilliant soundscape of some forbidden netherworld" ( quoted from www.progarchives.com )

SHELTER

Shelter, 2009

The image was taken nearby a picturesque palace near Opole, in a palace park; unfortunately (or fortunately?) during taking these shots, a thunderstorm caught us...the last pictures were taken with a bit scary companion of thunders & rain- as far as I remember , the image here is one of these. In a way I really liked it, the weather offered us the atmosphere that might be found in Wuthering Heights or a similar dark romantic novel & it doesn't happen that often.

ANGELS

Angels, 2006

"...kształty aniołów, niczym cienie

rzucane przez noc
zamarły uśpione w mojej przeszłości
Są teraz tutaj i chcą cię poznać
Więc wejdź w sen…"

"...shapes of angels the night casts
lie dead but dreaming
in my past
and they're here
they want to meet you
they want to play with you
so take the dream..."

WINGS AND HEARTS

Angels can fall in various ways. Rudolf Steiner wrote about luciferian beings in a beautiful way. And I recently had opportunity to stumble upon Anne Rice's novel "Memnoch The Devil"- nothing sophisticated, but this moody lecture makes one think about the idea of being an angel, or a saint, nowadays... I'm also enclosing an image of peonia found recently, while I was searching for objects for my Sunday macro shooting. Generally, flowers seem to be a promise of heaven in this earthly ground, don't they ^^...

LORELEI

The legend of Lorelei has been my favourite one for quite a long time, I used to collect this theme on vintage postcards, btw- it's quite strange that there are only a few paintings inspired by the legend, while a whole flood of postcards with Lorelei can be available on the collector's market. If you are interested in the story of this enigmatic cousin of wicked sirens and other creatures, please search through the web this time, I will only post an image with two cards that have just arrived to take place in my collection ( the image below). I would also like to say "thank you" for all recent comments. Even if I don't have opportunity & time to respond to all of them, it's always a pleasure to read , thanks and have a nice week :)

CALM PLACES

A Calm Place , 2007

Inspirations - FREDERICK JUDD WAUGH

Frederick Judd Waugh, urodzony w Bordertown ( New Jersey), był synem znanego portrecisty , Samuela Waugha. Studiował w Pensylwanii, a następnie w Paryżu ( razem z Bouguereau ). Graala i inne ).

Frederick Waugh, born in Bordertown ( New Jersey ), was the son of a well-known portrait
painter, Samuel Waugh. He studied in Pennsylvania and Paris ( with Bouguereau ). After graduating from studies, he moved to England, where he lived till 1908. Then he decided to move to New Jersey. Waugh was a remarkable marine painter, but among his works one will find both seascapes, personal scenes illustrating the life of his relatives, and mythological motives such as the legend of the Holy Grail. I find him a painter that in a perfect way incorporates certain mood in his paintings; using a golden, sublime light, which involves a mystical aura and a feeling of awaiting- no matter what the theme of his painting might be.

SPLEEN

Too lazy for translations today- anyway, it's all about weather- too gloomy & rainy to take photographs, too ruthless to save the poor flowers on the meadows...I'm enclosing an image taken a couple of weeks ago, when the nosy light tried to force its way into my little flat, & now I miss it, checking meteorological sites and listening to a doomy Shape Of Despair...

THE WAITING HOUR

The Waiting Hour , 2009

When your bag of secrets opened up and spilled
That radiant glow just disappeared
You rained down from the clouds
You were in

Sometimes we can be so blind
But how does pain so bad not bleed
You push
Sometimes you don't expect to fall

But it's the violent turning of the golden rule
A lifetime of hell for every minute of heaven

I know your heart is breaking
Here in the waiting hour
And I know it will never heal
Here in the waiting hour

So cross your fingers, or your heart
Your idle wish commands no more
The mirror you hate
Reveals all in this world you control...
( Human Drama - The Waiting Hour)
