Ladies In Blue

Lost and found in my wardrobe. The lovely satin dress was bought some time ago. In several cultures this colour is believed to keep the bad spirits away. It's also associated with stability and conservatism, the regal & cool blue, so much "Victorian" in spirit (and of course, there's still black, rather impossible to get dethroned :) )
Some ladies in blue...

Stand And Deliver

Stand And Deliver, 2009

Don't fade away
My brown-eyed girl
Come walk with me
I'll fill your heart with joy
And we'll dance through our isolation
Seeking solace in the wisdom we bestow
Turning thoughts to the here and everafter
Consuming fears in our fiery halos

Say what you mean
Mean what you say
I've heard that innocence
Has led us all astray

But don't let them make you and break you
The world is filled with their broken empty
Silence is their only virtue
Locked away inside their silent screams

But for now
Let us dance away
This starry night
Filled with the glow of fiery stars
And with the dawn
Our sun will rise
Bringing a symphony of bird cries

Don't bring me down now
Let me stay here for awhile
You know life's too short
Let me bathe here in your smile
I'm transcending
The fall from the garden

The View From Here

The view from here is a view to coming winter, cold days and even colder nights, some new musical releases ( e.g. adorable new seasonal album released by Tori Amos ,it's called "Midwinter Graces" ), and flu... Although I've recently suffered from a terminal lack of free time, I got a chance or two to have myself a little second-hand hunt for fabrics and gadgets that could be used in my images. And I was lucky to find these...

the first image shows something that I would see as a very free variation on Italian baroque gowns :) On a shameless price of a double McChicken. I just added all this white stuff, the beautiful blue tafeta pattern is left the way I got it. In the recent post you could see a model wearing this lovely gown.

The second photo shows a set combined of two Indian dresses put together with an old vintage blouse and an amber heart necklace. A sort of inspiration by an everyday Victorian outfit of a lady who's just came back from some exotic vacation... from Ceylon perhaps :) I don't have time to sew costumes from the very beginning now, however it's great to have such a search from time to time, it works no worse. These two costumes, however, are to be used no earlier than in Spring, and I'm desperately looking for some winter gowns and velvet robes. And I am also looking for interesting books on the history of XVIII & XIXth century fashion, any suggestions of the titles would be fine.

P.S. Przy okazji serdeczne podziękowania dla za przemiłe wyróżnienie, pozdrawiam :)

Sorrows Of The Moon

Tonight the moon dreams in a deeper languidness,
And, like a beauty on her cushions, lies at rest;
While drifting off to sleep, a tentative caress
Seeks, with a gentle hand, the contour of her breast;

As on a crest above her silken avalanche,
Dying, she yields herself to an unending swoon,
And sees a pallid vision everywhere she’d glance,
In the azure sky where blossoms have been strewn.

When sometime, in her weariness, upon her sphere
She might permit herself to sheda furtive tear,
A poet of great piety, a foe of sleep,

Catches in the hollow of his hand that tear,
An opal fragment, iridescent as a star;
Within his heart, far from the sun, it’s buried deep.

(Charles Baudelaire " Sorrows Of The Moon " )

edit: sold

I have some sorrows for sale, anyone interested? ;) Just joking... My "Sorrows of the Moon" work was inspired by this fabulous poem written by Charles Baudelaire. Just found "her" today while I was rearranging my print archives. Framed in a fabric sheet "white marble" passepartout, ready to put in a 21x30 cm frame , signed and limited to 20 copies, matte photo print. I will sell this little sorrowing lady for 83 eur ( shipping included ). I rarely offer prints for sale, so please take it a sort of an express sale. Only one print available. For more information please write to me at And read some more Baudelaire, no doubt a genius...

Inspirations - An Architect's Dream

I stumbled upon this video about 3 years ago, and it still keeps me impressed and thrilled by this calm elysium ... This is the world I could move to. and stay forever ... besides I've always been in love with Kate Bush's sensual world of music. Enjoy :)

All Virgos Are Mad

Unable to find a proper title for this post, I borrowed one from a 4ad cd compilation. Also, I've been so much into motives of hidden feminity and sensuality recently that nothing better would come to my mind, I'm afraid... So, last Sunday I had a shoot with lovely Caradelneil. Did I mention that I can't stand the fact that Summer has almost gone? Ah,, in a sort of fever I'm trying to catch the last rays of the sun, and working quite intensively. I'm also...going to buy an antique armchair for some future sessions... go for a trip to see a friend that I haven't seen for 3 years or more, and I'm really excited.I hope she's too, heheh ...going to tidy my apartment. Finally. I'm also desperately looking for vintage costumes for men as a couple of shoots are on the list, yet I'm not going to take simple portraits... to cut the long story ( post ) short, I'm busy & quite happy with this fact....As for inspirations - please, check "Raspail" by Arcana ,a moody, illustrative music with a little bit of orient slipping through these sounds.
Below are some images from the latest session. For more, please check my portfolio on carbonmade.

Anastasia And Some More

I managed to get back to my interest in sewing costumes recently, hopefully. Some of my recent designs should appear here in a little while, but this time I'd like to share an image of a costume I combined from a couple of treasures found in a second-hand shops and so on. Only the upper skirt, made from lace, is my own work- I wanted to give the whole dress a bit lighter feel (under the lace there's a heavy velvet skirt). So, the gowns are waiting for a suitable time & place . In the meantime I've refreshed a lecture of "Anastasia" ( written by Peter Kurth ), a moving biographical story of Anne Anderson, who claimed to be Nicolai II, the Russian tzar's daughter, saved from the massacre of the royal family. Extremely moving.... Below I'm sharing a couple of some 'lost & found" works. I'm thinking of coming back to colours, yet I'm not quitting the romance with old sepia aesthetics.

This And That

The fact that Summer is almost gone, makes me feel depressed. How come it has passed so fast. Each season has its unique charm but, having a temporary deficiency of energy, I've been really catching every single sunbeam. Never enough... I just came back from a short weekend visit at my relatives' and surprisingly managed to organize a small photo shoot today. There was a nice, a bit terryfying moment, when I was taking shots and the model noticed that I have a hornet on the shoulder... Ouch.

Inspirations - Florence + The Machine

I haven't been posting much recently. I don't spend much time at home. I take photographs, I work. I live :) The video, I would like to share, thrilled me from the very first time. I found out that this artist is quite popular, so you might have already seen this. But you might have not... Florence is having her debut album released this year and I am really going to get a copy.
